Does Consciousness precede Energy?

I enjoy dovetailing emails, especially when they inspire challenging questions. Two emails recently stirred my curiosity. They birthed a question that sent me off on an exoconscious exploration that continues.

Does Consciousness precede energy?

In the first email, Mitch Battros’ Earth Changes Media highlighted the findings of the Fermi Gamma Ray Space Telescope. Through this telescope, astronomers are studying the sky’s astrophysical and cosmological phenomena: active galactic nuclei, pulsars, high-energy sources and dark matter.

These high energy charged particles seem to have energy greater than what is produced in accelerators, such as Large Hadron colliders. According to the physicists, these high energy gamma rays should produce ultra high energy neutrinos. But, they don’t.

When asked about the origin of these found charged particles, where they come from, Dave Thompson, an astrophysicist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center answered. “It’s a mystery, for one thing.  About a third of the new sources can’t be clearly linked to any of the known types of objects that produce gamma rays. We have no idea what they are. The other two-thirds have one thing in common—astounding energy.”

I was left pondering the source and the composition of these high-energy charged particles. Could consciousness provide an answer?  And I must add—if it did–the admission of consciousness would certainly collapse the centuries-old structural boundaries between science and metaphysics, between science and spirituality.

In the second email, my friend, fellow researcher and author, Joan Bird, shared the Paramhansa Yogananda’s response to the 1949 world wide wave of UFO sightings,  “What people have seen is true. Those phenomena are not imaginary.”

Joan goes on to quote Yogananda when asked about modern sciences’ declaration that it would be impossible for the inhabitants of planets situated many light years away from Earth to make such a journey. Yogananda’s answer was that science is still in its infancy.

He said: “Modern man thinks that everything must be accomplished by physical force. There are many subtler forces in Nature. These will come to light as the general sensitivity of man becomes more refined. Someday it will be a simple matter to travel from Earth to Mars, or to other planets.”

“As planetary consciousness continues to evolve, people will become more aware of the power of consciousness. They will understand that consciousness precedes energy and that with their own minds they can direct energy to accomplish things.”

Leaping from the astrophysical to the quantum, Ervin Laszlo proposes that the zero-point energy field (motion at absolute zero, theoretically the lowest possible temperature) corresponds to the Akasha, the Hindu teaching of the source of everything that exists where the memory of the cosmos is encoded. Is this source of everything consciousness?

In the Upanishads the source of the cosmos is called Atman (that which shines).  Atman is the essence of consciousness.

The Buddah responds that “All phenomena are preceded by mind, made by mind, and ruled by mind.”

Consciousness has traditionally been the realm of religion, spirituality and philosophy.  Today it is an emerging scientific field, primarily focusing on brain research. Encouraging conversations are beginning over questions like–Does Consciousness precede Energy–redefining former academic boundaries.

Having studied consciousness to refine exoconsciousness, one thing is certain.  As we move through space, as we survey the sub-atomic realm, as we explore super charged particles, we again and again encounter consciousness.  Exoconsciousness: within our bodies and beyond.
